Exclusion Screening
What can be screened using the Exclusion Screening feature (part of the Risk module group), including business involvements, norms compliance, and public exclusion lists.
Exclusion Screening lets you define policies that flag or exclude holdings based on business involvements, norms compliance, and public exclusion lists. Each policy is made up of one or more rules, and each rule is built from the criteria listed below.
How it works
This section will explain how to build and apply an exclusion screening policy — including how policies are created, how rules are combined, and how results are surfaced in the product.
What can be screened today
Criteria are grouped by category, matching the way they appear in the policy wizard.
Business Involvements — yes/no flags
These criteria screen on whether a company has any involvement in the activity. The result is a simple yes/no — there is no revenue threshold.
- Oil Sands
- Hydraulic Fracking
- Fossil Fuel
- Uranium Mining
- Nuclear Power Generation
- Coal (Black / Brown / Anthracite / Bituminous / Sub-bituminous / Thermal / Coking)
- Cluster Bombs
- Landmines (Personnel)
- Nuclear Weapons
- Chemical & Biological Weapons

- Tobacco — Distributor / Licensor
- Alcohol — Distributor / Licensor
- Cannabis
- Animal Cruelty

- GMO — Research / Products / Retail

Business Involvements — revenue thresholds
These criteria screen based on the percentage of a company's revenue derived from a given activity. When building a rule, you set the threshold (e.g. "more than 5% of revenue").

Norms & Compliance

Sanctioned Nations
- Flags holdings with exposure to companies operating in sanctioned countries
Public Exclusion Lists
- NBIM Exclusion List — the Norges Bank Investment Management (Norway's Government Pension Fund Global) public exclusion list, one of the most widely referenced lists used by institutional investors

A note on violation severity
Violations in the product are shown with a severity badge — CRITICAL or HIGH.
- Rules based on a yes/no flag (e.g. Cluster Bombs, UNGC) are marked CRITICAL
- Rules based on a revenue threshold (e.g. Tobacco > 5%) are marked HIGH
These severity levels are currently fixed by rule type. Configurable per-rule severity is planned for a future release.
