Understand the Periodic Report

How the SFDR Periodic Report works for Article 8 and Article 9 funds.

The Periodic Report is the annual fund-level SFDR disclosure required for Article 8 and Article 9 funds. It sets out how the fund's sustainability characteristics or objectives were met during the reporting period.

SFDR fund classifications

Each fund must be classified under one of three categories:

ArticleLabelWhat it means
Article 6"Grey"No specific ESG strategy. Must disclose how sustainability risks are managed.
Article 8"Light green"Promotes environmental or social characteristics. ESG criteria are applied in the investment process.
Article 9"Dark green"Sustainable investment is the core objective. All investments must contribute to an environmental or social goal.

Only Article 8 and Article 9 funds are required to publish a Periodic Report.

What the report contains

The Periodic Report is auto-populated from your portfolio data and other Compliance and Reporting modules:

  • Sustainable investment percentage — driven by your Sustainable Investments module settings. If this module is not configured, the percentage will show as 0%.
  • Taxonomy alignment figures — shown as Turnover, CapEx, and OpEx

The report shows two percentage columns. The left-hand figure comes from the sustainable investment criteria configured in the product. The right-hand figure represents taxonomy-aligned investments based on company-reported data. These are calculated independently and will differ.

When is it due?

The Periodic Report must be published at least annually, alongside the fund's annual report. Some managers also produce semi-annual or quarterly updates depending on their obligations under UCITS or AIFMD.

Common questions

How often do I need to produce a Periodic Report? At least annually, published alongside the fund's annual report. Some managers produce more frequent updates depending on UCITS or AIFMD obligations.

What if my sustainable investment percentage shows as 0%? This means the Sustainable Investments module has not been configured for the fund. Set up your sustainable investment methodology in that module and the figure will update.

Can I export a report for a different period to the one I uploaded data for? Yes — you can export for any quarter for which you have uploaded portfolio data. Use the period selector in the fund view to switch between periods.
