Understand the EET

How the European ESG Template works and what data flows into it automatically.

The EET (European ESG Template) is a standardised Excel file developed by FinDatEx. Fund managers use it to share ESG data — including taxonomy alignment percentages, PAI indicators, and SFDR product classification — with distributors and financial advisers, so they can fulfil their own obligations under MiFID II and IDD.

Using the EET is voluntary as a format, but the underlying disclosures it contains are required by regulation. It is the industry-standard way of delivering that data in machine-readable form.

What gets pre-filled automatically

The EET module auto-populates the quantitative ESG fields in the EET from your portfolio data:

  • PAI indicators — pulled from the PAI module based on your portfolio holdings
  • Taxonomy alignment percentages — Turnover, CapEx, and OpEx figures from the EU Taxonomy module
  • Sustainable Investments data — share of sustainable investments as configured in the Sustainable Investments module

What you still need to supply

The General Questions section must be completed manually each period. This includes:

  • Reporting period start and end dates
  • SFDR product classification (Article 6, 8, or 9)
  • Share of sustainable investments for the fund
  • Any fund-specific qualitative statements

These answers are not carried forward automatically from a previous period.

Which taxonomy figure goes into the EET?

Where the EET asks for "the reported share of taxonomy-aligned investments", this refers to the Turnover (revenue) figure. Under the EU Taxonomy, companies report alignment across three KPIs (Turnover, CapEx, OpEx), but Turnover is the primary metric used for fund-level reporting and the one pulled into the EET.

Common questions

Can I pre-fill answers from a previous period? Not automatically. The general questions need to be re-entered each period. The quantitative data fields are auto-populated from your holdings. If you are completing EETs across many funds, contact your CSM.

Why can't I export my EET? The most common cause is an incomplete or missing End date of the reporting period field in the General Questions section. Complete all required fields and try again. If the error persists, contact support@connect.earth with the fund name and period.
